My name is Lesley Butler and I am from Torbay, Newfoundland and Labrador. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts at Memorial University with a major in anthropology and a minor in film studies. I then moved across the pond to complete a Master of Arts in social anthropology at the University of Manchester. There, I focused on visual and sensory media, and more specifically, the use of documentary filmmaking for research. As I have always found gender to be at the crux of my research interests, I thought it only fitting to pursue a Masters in Gender Studies. While I have returned home to Newfoundland, I have also found another ‘home’ within the Gender Studies department at Memorial University. I am proud to be a part of the Saltwater Stories blogging team and look forward to linking my interests in film, gender, and anthropology, to further explore the relationships between migration, memory and identity.
